| Expectations for 2013 |
in 2013, a high-profile sporting event will be held in Brazil: the Confederations Cup. Although Rio Grande do Sul will not be hosting the event, the state capital, Porto Alegre, will be one of the World Cup 2014 host cities. In view of these two major future dates, the Britcham RS Culture and Tourism Committee will begin its preparations, including initiatives to show the importance of the English language and encourage people to learn it, being a basic tool for successful communication and participation in these two important moments in Brazil’s sporting history. The actions of Britcham RS will highlight the importance of the United Kingdom’s cultural and linguistic legacy, and will also focus on the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where thousands of “gaúchos”, as the local people are known, will be enrolling as volunteers. |
