| Objective |
foster discussion on legal issues affecting Britcham members and provide information on theses and relevant news. |
| Expectations for 2013 |
in addition to continuing the committee's regular activities (seminars, lunch meetings, preparing articles for the legal review, etc.), we intend to work in closer integration with other committees and organize a larger number of joint events. |
| Challenge |
as we approach the Olympic Games and Fifa World Cup, all three spheres of government (Federal, State and Municipal) have begun to mobilize. Keeping Britcham members informed of developments, risks and opportunities related to these events will be one of our goals for 2011. |
| Frequency |
after attempts to hold meetings on a monthly basis, we have opted to hold quarterly meetings, as well as extraordinary meetings when warranted by unexpected developments. |
| Target Public |
all those interested in discussing legal themes within Britcham's scope of activity. |
| Themes |
in addition to the FIFA World Cup and Olympic Games (as discussed above), the themes on our agenda for 2011 include: privacy and information confidentiality with the advent of new technologies; lawsuits as instruments for intimidation; special import tax regimes (with emphasis given to REPETRO); current issues in property law; Brazil-UK double taxation (the third and fifth themes will be discussed together with the Tax Committee). |
| Events and seminars |
as mentioned above, given the committee's broad scope, we plan to organize events alongside the other specialist committees (such as the tax committee - see the example above). We believe this collaboration would allow us to identify the themes most relevant to our members and discuss them in greater depth. |
| Networking Opportunity |
this is an essential aspect of Britcham as a whole. Our committee provide a platform for networking among parties with specific interests and expertise in legal matters, enhancing the benefits of contacts established. |
| Benefits for members |
as discussed above, the members of the legal committee are professionals who are active in their respective fields and keep up to date on legal developments. Members participating in the committee will have the opportunity to learn and discuss current developments (court decisions, changes in the position of tax authorities, etc) potentially of interest to them. In addition, with the legal committee's broad-ranging expertise, issues raised can be discussed from the perspective of the various fields of law involved, providing members with a complete picture of the subjects discussed. |
