Doing Social Investment in Brazil

Marcelo Coimbra, coordinator of the Ethics and Social Responsibility Committee, talks about the challenges of releasing the book "Doing Social Investment in Brazil".

"Sustainable development is a concept that aims to further economic growth while fostering social welfare. To achieve this, sustainable development recognises the needs of every individual and seeks to fulfil them through social progress. In respect of the environment, this concept expounds the rational use of national resources, so that such resources are available for future generations and can lay the foundations for stable economic growth. In aid of initiatives that further social progress, Britcham's Ethics and Social Responsibility Committee is implementing the project "Doing Social Investment in Brazil". This project entails the organisation of debates about social investment in Brazil between sector entities and Britcham members. These debates will be used to write a book to provide guidance and to encourage foreign social investment, especially British, in Brazil. The book's contents will be developed in partnership with social investment entities and will be published in English. Upon completion, campaigns will be conducted overseas to distribute the publication to foreign readers with a view to encouraging social investment in Brazil".

Doing Social Investment in Brazil

This specialised guidebook will show foreign investors how to make private social investment in Brazil. The book's chapters are written by specialists in matters of interest to investors, and include: a Social Overview of Brazil; Social Investment Modalities, Mechanisms, Identification and Selection; Social Investment vs.

Sustainability; Legal issues in Foreign Social Investment in Brazil: Creating Social Investment Funds, Central Bank Regulations and Legal Security, Social Entrepreneurship and Marketing and Corporate Social Responsibility; Social Investment Risk Assessment; Vehicles for Social Investment; Follow-up and analysis of social investment efficiency; Social investment auditing in Brazil; Social investment alternatives in Brazil; Due Diligence and Compliance and British Social Investment in Brazil. Ethics, Social and Environmental Responsibility and Sustainability are terms that have become increasingly common in everyday corporate life and operating sustainably is a premise that Britcham considers critical to growth, long-term prosperity and adding value to any company. Due to the success of this section in the 2009 and 2010 editions of the Directory and now with the book "Doing Social Investment in Brazil", it is appropriate to mention the members who are sponsoring this project of the Ethics and Social Responsibility Committee, in order to encourage our members to sign up to this new challenge laid down by Britcham and its committee.
